Wrestling Season and Time

Wrestling Season
Wrestling Season has officially begun! It is CRAZY!! But, it has started exceptionally well. The Wylie Pirate Wrestling Team finished in FIRST place at the Richardson Tournament against 13 teams!! Last year at the same event they finished fifth! Go Coach Wight : ) It's awesome to see him accomplish so much in his first few years of coaching. Here is a snapshot of the team celebrating the win...

Velvie is quickly becoming her daddy's biggest fan and is getting well acquainted with hanging out in the gym watching dad coach. She is also figuring out how to pass out in the stands amid all the commotion - whistles, screaming parents and buzzers - no matter, she's tired! : ) I'm not sure what I'm going to do when she doesn't fit in my lap anymore. Coach Wight always takes a little time out to come see us in the stands...Velvie LOVES it : )

Time
I am so so amazed at how fast it is going by. And I am a little sad today to be quite honest.
How do you capture the little moments of rocking your baby to sleep? I don't want to forget how she feels in my arms at six months old, or how she breaths or what she smells like. I love how her eyes roll back when she is wanting to stay awake, but the sleep is winning out. Her little sighs. Her very cute chubby cheeks and those crazy lashes. I wish i could keep the moment and come back to it in twenty years. I know I will miss it. And I will try to conjure it back up as best and as real as I possibly can when I can't hold her like that anymore. I can't believe how much she's grown in just the last 1/2 year.

Quite the busy Lady...

The week started off with a very cute dalmatian puppy!! We went to a city wide event in Wylie in the old downtown. They block off main street and there are tons of games, trick or treating booths, music and fun. Velvet never once cracked a smile. I think she was mad that she had a black dot on her nose.

Auntie Jampies (my sister Jamie) went with us and Vel seemed to have a better time when she was with her : ) Aren't they so cute together?? This is one of my favorite pictures of them!

Later in the week she was onto bigger and better (more serious) things...helping Aunt Jamie with her Pre-Cal homework...looks like she's taking after mom ; )

She is very very close to crawling. I couldn't believe I actually captured this on video. She hasn't done it since, but this was most definitely her very first true crawl step. (she was a bit frustrated, but she did so good! : )

She finished the week off by putting a sock on her head. I was in the kitchen, and all I saw was Drew dashing down the hall, and then dashing back. He was getting the camera - he was so proud she did it all by herself : ) haha...

She's Sitting!

Little Vel's been sitting for about 2 weeks now : ) She's getting pretty good with it, she can turn her head and look up and even grab something - and still stay balanced (for the most part! :) Here is our little sitter...

This past weekend we spent some time with Mama T (Drew's mama) and Billow (her hubby) on their new house boat. We had a GREAT time! The house boat is amazing. And of course, the Velvie girl had a super time hanging with her Mama T : )

Vel and I finally got a few good pics together. Here is one of my favorites:

Randomness...

We have ourselves a talker folks! She can get quite serious too - furrowing her brow and everything. Sometimes I think she probably knows what we should do about our economy...

Well, I just couldn't help myself. I had to take some incriminating pictures. Poor Velvie. She is SO cute though, right!!???! hehe...

I have to say that my husband is very amazing. He can even decorate. I'm so proud that I have to show y'all this picture. Seriously, he did ALL of it - he even bought it all - without me. It's definitely tempting to take all the credit - especially when EVERYONE complements me on how great our front porch looks...but I can't. I always end up saying "I know! Can you believe that Drew did it!!?" Love ya babes : )

The downhill slide...

During our stay at the Hannan Home, we were so excited to have my good friends Patchi and Lei come and visit. It was Lei's first time to meet Vel, so of course, we got pictures : )

Vel and Drew had some GREAT Dad-Daughter time. I so love watching them play. There is definitely something special about Daddies - and it just happens. There's no practicing or awkward moments - just pure fun. Velvie's smile says it all...

Just the other day we were playing and for some reason Velvet thought that when I started to breathe in it was just too funny...so I got this very fun clip. We are so excited to share with you our very favorite sound in the whole wide world:

CRAZY times...

Well, it's been crazy in the Wight house here lately. We are actually camping out at the Hannan's for the week. I (Christy) finally decided to go ahead and have my gallbladder removed after three very painful attacks and an attempt to change my diet (thanks to Vel, it pooped out). That happened yesterday. I'm feeling ok and everything went really well. Turns out that in the 25 years that my doctor has been doing this surgery he'd never seen anything like mine. Instead of just being attached to one side of my liver, it was attached to both sides. I have some really awesome pictures that they took during the surgery, but I'll spare you all the details : )

The other craziness that has been going on is that a 'neighbor' of ours ran into our gas meter/pipe at the end of our driveway. That is getting fixed now (luckily covered on homeowners insurance) but we won't have hot water until probably Friday at the earliest. This happened last week - right before the rains of hurricane Ike blew through Dallas which did not help fix the situation. We don't know who did it - it was a 'hit and run'. Now they've found some crazy broken terracotta looking pipe under our driveway. So we have to wait for the city to come and check it out - hopefully that results in a great big NOTHING :)

Drew has been playing the role of 'Mr. Mom' and doing a fabulous job : )

We're pretty sure Vel is in the middle of a growth spurt. She is sleeping just as much in the day as she is at night! We've hardly seen her the past two days :( When we take some more pictures of her, she's going to be HUGE - as if she wasn't before!! haha...

And a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY goes out to my beautiful sister Gennie (SWEET 16!) and our good friend Mikey-T. Hope your days are fabulous :)

Love to All

The First Lady

Hello Family and Friends!

We have decided to try to keep a blog since we have a lot of out-of-Dallas friends and family. We'll try our best to update with new photos (especially of Vel!) to keep everyone who wants to know, in the know.

Baby Velvet arrived on June 9, 2008. We call her 'Lady' a lot. This might be because we didn't know if she was a boy or girl before she came, so once she did, we've been making up for some lost time :)

Here are some fun facts about her:

*She really likes Classic Rock. In fact for the first couple of months Christy couldn't even listen to praise music in the car! She wanted Led and that was that. Drew was totally stoked that his little girl was SO COOL!

*She is already a pretty serious kid. She does have her happy times too...but only when she wants too.

*She really likes her puppies Mars and Lily - they can get her to smile every time!

*She likes baths, but hates getting out.

*She is not fond of lotions or getting dressed.

*She has a great belly laugh.

*She likes to sleep. Yay for us! :)

*She does NOT enjoy cold hands.

*She is VERY social and loves to talk. She talkes a lot. She even talks while she eats - a true girl already! We can't wait to hear what she really has to say.

Here are some recent pictures of our first Lady:

Love to All!
